Former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batter Chris Gayle has revealed his and AB de Villiers’ prediction for Virat Kohli ahead of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. He said that they were sure that there will be carnage for bowlers in the coming days.
RCB batter Virat Kohli kick-started his IPL 2023 campaign on a dominating note as he played a staggering innings against Mumbai Indians (MI) to take his team past the finishing line in their first game of the league. The right-hander looked a class apart and smashed bowlers all over the park.

What was the highlight of his innings was he came out to bat with a positive mindset and hardly mistimed any ball. Even a top bowler like Jofra Archer looked clueless against Kohli, who oozed his class and made the crowd cheer for his every shot. As Kohli played a staggering knock in RCB’s season opener against MI, Chris Gayle revealed what he and AB de Villiers predicted ahead of the IPL. While speaking in the post-match show on Jio Cinema, he elaborated.
IPL 2023 | India National Cricket Team | Chennai Super Kings (CSK) | Delhi Capitals (DC) | Gujarat Titans (GT) | Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) | Lucknow Supergiants (LSG) | Mumbai Indians (MI) | Punjab Kings (PBKS) | Rajasthan Royals (RR) | Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) | SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH)
“We talked about Virat before the tournament – AB and I. De Villiers said ‘Hey, he’s a bit hungry’. There’s going to be carnage for bowlers in the days to come.”
Notably, Virat was in horrible form in the last IPL season as he failed to score runs. But since the Asia Cup 2022, he has regained his full form and is back to scoring runs consistently like he used to do.
KKR vs RCB: “Virat and Faf are going to feed off each other perfectly,” Chris Gayle lauds RCB’s opening duo
KKR vs RCB: Not only Virat Kohli but Faf du Plessis was also at his classical best in the first game against Mumbai Indians. The RCB skipper blasted 73 runs in 43 balls with the help of 6 fours and 5 sixes. The duo complimented each other well and stitched 148 runs for the opening partnership to almost seal the game for their side.
Gayle was left amazed by the kind of partnership Virat and Faf shared against MI. He lauded the duo for their running between the wickets and highlighted that bowlers need to be wary of them. He explained:
“We know Faf is class. He’s an excellent captain and an excellent player. He has done it all over international cricket as well, so this is not new to Faf. One thing I can tell you, Virat and Faf are going to feed off each other perfectly. Look at the way they start, they look to drop and run.
“They pick up their ones and their twos and by the third overcomes, they’re ready to take it out. That’s something bowlers and teams got to be aware of because these two, I’ve said this before, you’re guaranteed almost 400 runs.”
After the dominating show against Mumbai Indians, Virat Kohli will be next seen in action when RCB will take on Kolkata Knight Riders in their next match on Thursday (6th April) at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
