KL Rahul did not have any words to describe how, just how his team Kings XI Punjab managed to lose against Kolkata Knight Riders after having dominated the game for a major part of 40 overs on Saturday.

Chasing 165 to win, Kings XI Punjab were coasting towards a comfortable win after the opening duo of KL Rahul [74 off 58 balls] and Mayank Agarwal [56 off 39 balls] had stitched a 115-run-opening stand in 14.2 overs.

Even after the dismissal of Mayank Agarwal, KXIP looked like they will breeze past the target as Rahul and Nicholas Pooran took Kamlesh Nagarkoti for 19 runs in the 17th over to reduce the equation to 22 runs off the last 18 balls.

But it all changed after the time-out as Sunil Narine saw the back of a dangerous looking Pooran before Prasidh Krishna dismissed both Rahul and Prabhsimran Singh, who was inexplicably promoted ahead of Glenn Maxwell, in the 19th over.

It ultimately boiled down to 7 runs off the last 2 balls when Sunil Narine dismissed Mandeep Singh to ensure that even if Maxwell struck a six off the last ball, KKR still wouldn’t lose. And, they didn’t as all Maxi could manage was a boundary to leave his side two runs short of the target.

Here’s what KL Rahul had to say after KXIP’s defeat against KKR-

”I have no answers. We just need to keep coming harder in the next seven games. We bowled really really well. This was a fresh strip so we didn’t know what were good lines and lengths. And the bowlers adjusted really well. And they were brave at the death too. Don’t think we were satisfied at any stage in the chase. You are satisfied only when you win the game. Towards the end, we kept losing wickets, and couldn’t get us over the line.”
