Mayank and Rahul arguably share an amicable bond since they have played together for Karnataka in the domestic circuit and Kings XI Punjab in the Indian Premier League. Mayank hilariously incited the talk towards Rahul’s captaincy as he was to serve as one ahead of the 2020 season which now stands postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The prolific Test batsman acknowledged that his teammate already kept getting angry on him and as a captain, it is even more difficult to predict. Rahul bounced back by admitting that he reacts like it only when Mayank does foolish things on the field while narrating an example.
“I was looking forward to seeing you captain the team this year. You already keep getting angry so many times on the field, now I don’t know how will you react when you will become the captain. I only get angry with you because you do stupid things on the field.” Mayank Agarwal stated as quoted by Times Now.
Why KL Rahul came down hard at Mayank Agarwal?
India’s limited-overs keeper-batsman became furious on the 29-year old during a run-chase against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The reason why the former became enraged since Rahul advised him not to play a risky shot and Mayank did. KL Rahul recalled that their side was chasing only 140 and that Mayank’s shot over mid-wicket marginally managed to clear the fielder. It was perilous and needless.
“It was stupid cricket. You got a six, I understand but that was a very risky shot and we were not chasing a 190, we were chasing 140 and we were cruising along and I didn’t want to lose a wicket at that time. I told you very clearly before the over that if you want to take a chance, hit a four. I say that five seconds back, and then you go and try to hit the first ball over mid-wicket and that was the long side of the field and you just managed to clear Vijay Shankar, I think. Not even clear, he could have easily taken the catch if he was on the line.” Rahul said.
