Optimistic KL Rahul opens up about his preparations for South Africa Tour

Team India batsman KL Rahul who is thoroughly disappointed to miss out on the One-day International series in South Africa revealed he is working on his shot selection

“It will be challenging for the body and mind, but I’m sure everyone is working. I have seen a few videos, and spoken to a few people who have played there before,” Rahul told Indian Express.

The Karnataka-based batsman who have had struggled while considering the conversion rate between 50-100 is focused on his game while adding he is supposed to shoulder the arm for most of the deliveries to get best of the idea while considering the overseas conditions.

“I’ve gotten out in different ways. Sometimes I have played a rash shot, other times I have got a good ball. It’s all a learning curve,” Rahul maintained.

Adamant in approach, Rahul reiterated that he does not have any solid answer for failing to convert the fifties into the triple-figure mark, but he has been working on the game to improve with the time.

Moreover, Rahul made it clear by saying he was playing his matches while having the Proteas series on the horizon apart from the Sri Lankan games.

“Yes, obviously you would be disappointed if your name’s not there. I’m not thinking too much about it at the moment. I will work harder than before and try to make a comeback,” Rahul said while failing to make it to the 50-over squad in South Africa.

Interestingly, it would also be the first-ever tour to South Africa for Rahul, who has a great belief in hard work and has aimed to give his hundred percent against Faf du Plessis side.

“I’ve been practising against the bouncing ball. They are the No.1 bowling attack in the world. They have different skills, they have swing and bounce,” Rahul remarked.

However, Rahul had flown to the Wanderers when he was the part of India Under-19 team.

Rahul also revealed the found moment of watching former Indian batsman Virender Sehwag playing in South Africa on TV when the latter made a debut ton in 2001 at Bloemfontein.

“My fondest memory of watching cricket in South Africa on TV is Virender Sehwag getting his debut Test hundred,” Rahul concluded.

The 26-year-old right-handed batsman has featured in 21 Tests in which he scored 1,428 runs at an average of 44.62.
