Former South Africa fast bowler Kyle Abbott created magic in Southampton when he returned with 17 for 86 against Somerset in a County Championship Division One match. The Hampshire fast bowler claimed nine wickets in the first innings and backed it with another eight to help his side register a 136 runs win.
The 32-year-old left South Africa a few years back to sign the Kolpak deal to live his dream for playing for England. The right-arm fast bowler has started to make his dream count after eye-catching display of fast bowling in this year’s County Championship.

Kyle Abbot followed his nine for 40 in the first innings against Somerset with eight for 46 in the second innings to become the first Hampshire player to take 17 wickets in a match. His figures are the best by anyone in a first-class match since Jim Laker’s spectacular 19 for 90 against Australia in Manchester in 1956.

In the first innings, Abbott rushed through Somerset’s batting lineup, including Indian batsman Murali Vijay. Kyle Abbott picked nine wickets while Fidel Edwards claimed one. His figures were the second-best for Hampshire in first-class cricket after Cardigan Connor’s nine for 38.
The paceman bowled out Somerset for 142 and 144 in the first and second innings respectively to help Hampshire secure a crucial win in the championship. Kyle Abbott contributed with the bat as well sharing a crucial 119-run partnership for the ninth wicket with skipper James Vince.
Abbott has 439 wickets in the 113 first-class matches he has played so far including 30 fifers and four ten-wicket hauls. He has played 11 Tests, 28 ODIs, and 21 T20Is for South Africa and left a solid impression in that short stature.
