Mayank Agarwal is in the form of his life at the moment. The Karnataka opener has already scored 1142 runs in the six Ranji Trophy games out of which 1111 runs have come in the last five games. He had managed just 31 runs in first two games, which also included a pair, and was on the verge of being dropped but skipper R Vinay Kumar resisted with him.

Now, the team is enjoying fruits of his form and has already made it the semifinals, with a major contribution coming from Mayank.

In one of the matches in which Mayank failed was against Assam, coached by Lalchand Rajput, the former India player who has worked with Mayank. Lalchand Rajput talked about Mayank’s weakness and said that a bowler needs to bowl him outside off if he wants to tackle the right-handed batsman,

“With Mayank, you need to bowl outside the off stump, slightly short and going away. He has a weakness there. You got to be consistent enough to bowl in that area and frustrate him. Now he has scored a triple hundred and big hundreds. He has big runs under his belt and is in a different zone. His confidence is high. You need to get him out quickly. So, you don’t have to give loose balls to him early on,” he told TOI.

Rajput was appointed as the coach of Assam after he left his job as the coach of Afghanistan cricket team. Recently, it was announced that Afghanistan would be playing its inaugural Test against India in India, which would have satisfied Rajut.

Coming to Mayank, he will again go as the ‘player to watch out for’ in the contest against Vidarbha, which will be played at Eden Gardens in Bengal.

The success of Karnataka will depend on likes of Mayank himself, KL Rahul, R Vinay Kumar, Karun Nair, Abhimanyu Mithun while on the other side, the success of Vidarbha will reply on Wasim Jaffer, Faiz Fazal, Karn Sharma and Ganesh Satish.

Karnataka have already got a big boost ahead of the game as KL Rahul – despite being part of T20I side –  has been released for the game.

The semifinal contest will be played from December 17 to 21 and winner of the game will fly to Indore for the final contest starting on December 29.
