With the Lankan Premier League (LPL) set to begin later this year, some of the most prominent T20 players will go under the hammer. The auction for the LPL will take place on the 1st of October while the tournament is set to kickstart on the 14th of November. The competition will feature 23 matches across three venues.
The few international players, who will go under the hammer are Chris Gayle, Darren Sammy, Darren Bravo, Shahid Afridi, Shakib Al Hasan, Ravi Bopara, Colin Munro, Vernon Philander, and Munaf Patel. In all, five franchises will have an opportunity to bid for 150 players.
Each franchise can purchase up to six international players, which means that the tournament will have 30 overseas cricketers and the remaining 65 local ones. Each squad will have 19 members with the 2020 edition continuing till the 6th of December in Dambulla, Hambantota, and Pallekele. The five franchises taking part are Dambulla Hawks, Colombo Lions, Galle Gladiators, Jaffna Hawks, and Kandy Tuskers.
Quarantine period likely to be short for overseas players partaking in LPL:
The Sri Lankan government is yet to approve a brief isolation duration for players, officials, and broadcasting staff. The COVID-19 pandemic also forced the LPL to be rescheduled in November, which would have initially taken place in August.
The Sri Lankan cricket officials have requested that the quarantine period for those arriving in the country to reduce to seven days. At present, there is no community spread of COVID-19 in Sri Lanka; however, quarantine protocols have stood stringent to prevent the spread of the disease.
