Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Rohit Sharma heaped praise on the Uttarakhand pacer Akash Madhwal after the victory of the 5-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions in the IPL 2023 Eliminator.
The Eliminator of IPL 2023 was played between the Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on May 24.

The Rohit Sharma-led side showcased an exceptional all-round show and crushed the Krunal Pandya-led Lucknow Super Giants by 81 runs to seal the victory.
Batting first they posted 182/8 and while defending the target Akash Madhwal destroyed the Lucknow Super Giants batting unit with the iconic figures of 5/5. The Uttarakhand pacer also bagged the Player of the Match award for his heroics.

Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, Rohit Sharma said that Mumbai Indians (MI) have been pulling off unbelievable wins over the years consistently.

“That is what we have done over the years. People don’t expect us to do what we have done, but we managed to,” he said.

Rohit Sharma further lauded Akash Madhwal, saying that he knew the pacer had the skills and the character to perform on the grand stage.
“He (Akash) was part of the team last year as a support bowler, and once Jofra was gone and I knew he had the skills and the character to do the job for us. Over the years we have seen many guys coming in from Mumbai Indians and playing for India,” he said.
Rohit Sharma further spoke about the team environment created by the Mumbai Indians to make the young players feel special.
“It is important to make them (youngsters) feel special and make them feel part of the team, my job is to just make them comfortable in the middle. They are very clear in their roles about what they need to do for the team and that’s what you want. As a team we enjoyed it (fielding). Good to see everyone contributing on the field.”
“Coming to Chennai, we knew the whole team needs to come to the party. At Wankhede, you need one or two brilliant performances, but here it is a different ball game.”
