Josh Hazlewood is expected to make his comeback to competitive cricket after four months to prove his fitness for Australia’s six-Test tour of England. The Australian paceman will reportedly return to the bowling crease for his Indian Premier League team, Royal Challengers Bangalore, in their upcoming match against Lucknow Super Giants.
Having suffered injuries frequently, Josh Hazlewood hasn’t played in any cricket format since he injured his Achilles during the SCG Test in January. However, he is determined to get back in shape for the upcoming six Tests in eight weeks, which begins with the World Test Championship final against India at The Oval starting on June 7th.

Since Josh Hazlewood joined RCB earlier this month, the medical staff of Cricket Australia have been closely monitoring his recovery. If he successfully completes his final training session before the Lucknow match, he is likely to be given the green light to play.

During the last Ashes tour in 2019, Hazlewood was in excellent form, taking 20 wickets at an impressive average of 21.85. As a result, he was one of only four specialist pacemen selected in the Australian squad for the first half of their UK campaign.

Josh Hazlewood Looks To Consolidate His Spot
Since the 2019 Ashes campaign, Josh Hazlewood has played in only 11 out of Australia’s past 28 Test matches. This is due to his struggles with hamstring and side injuries. Despite his injury setbacks, Hazlewood has maintained his potency with the ball and taken 38 wickets at an average of 22.26 during this period, which has been frustrating for him.
Initially, Josh Hazlewood was chosen for the four-Test tour of India. However, he had to withdraw from the series midway because he was unable to overcome his persistent Achilles problem.
Josh Hazlewood has indicated that he is adopting a new approach to prepare for the Test series while participating in limited-overs tournaments. This new approach prioritizes building up his red-ball bowling loads during such tournaments.
“I’ve chatted with guys at Cricket Australia, Cricket NSW … to get a plan together. It’s probably about short-term loss versus long-term gain a lot of the time, You’ve got a T20 World Cup or an IPL or a one-day series, it’s about still ticking those boxes off the field to be ready to go for a Test series.
“It might hurt that particular series, or you might not be 100 per cent but in the long term you might be better placed for an Ashes or a home Test summer. It’s just about summing up what’s right and how much you can do.”
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have six regular season matches left in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and are currently in fifth place on the IPL standings, having lost their recent match against Kolkata Knight Riders.
