Mandeep Singh batted through grief in the IPL 2020 when Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) took on SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Saturday. He took the opening slot for the first time in IPL 2020. The decision, incidentally, comes a night after losing his father.

It has been a day where cricketers have shown how to be strong through the pain as earlier Nitish Rana brought up his 10th IPL half-century at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi and dedicated the milestone to his late father-in-law.

Soon after reaching his half-century, Rana pulled out a jersey with ‘Surinder’ etched in it. Commentator for the official broadcasters Jatin Sapru confirmed on-air that it was in memory of his late father-in-law Surinder Marwah who lost battle to cancer yesterday. Rana is married to Saachi Marwah.

“Way to go”: KXIP applauds the decision taken by Mandeep Singh

KXIP franchise were in full support of their batsman as he took the decision, the tweet indicated. The Punjab franchise notified that Mandeep Singh has stepped out to open for the side after losing his father last night. They also applauded his spirit by saying ‘way to go’ Mandeep Singh.

Mandeep however could not keep going for KXIP as he was sent packing for 17 runs off 14 deliveries by fast bowler Sandeep Sharma. His knock was laced with one boundary. KXIP teammates showed solidarity in his loss during the match as they all wore black armbands.

KXIP have registered victory in three matches on the trot and it will be important for them to  win this game to stay alive in the competition.
