Former Australia batsman Matthew Hayden has lashed out at International Cricket Council (ICC) for getting involved in the controversy surrounding MS Dhoni’s wicketkeeping gloves. The former India skipper is all over the news from the last few days for the reasons he would have least expected. His gloves are all over the news after the cameras spotted an Army Insignia on it during India’s World Cup-opener against South Africa last week.

And it immediately triggered a storm across the cricketing fraternity. While the fans across the nation were all praise for Dhoni, the ICC was not fine with the logo on the gloves.  The governing body of the game soon intervened and asked BCCI to stop Dhoni from donning those gloves. The Indian cricket board first backed Dhoni but eventually accepted ICC’s verdict.

“The ICC has responded to the BCCI to confirm the logo displayed by MS Dhoni in the previous match is not permitted to be worn on his wicket-keeping gloves at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019,” the ICC said in a statement on Friday (June 7).

“The regulations for ICC events do not permit any individual message or logo to be displayed on any items of clothing or equipment. In addition to this, the logo also breaches the regulations in relation to what is permitted on wicketkeeper gloves,” it added.

The dust seemed to have settled on the matter but Matthew Hayden did not stop himself from criticising ICC. The legendary batsman, who played with Dhoni in the IPL, said that the ICC should not have got involved in the matter. Taking a dig at ICC, Matthew Hayden wrote:

“Typical @ICC @cricketworldcup……..Majoring in the minor things, think our games higher power has much greater issues to worry about including how to contextualise 3 formats of our great game”
