Chairman of Selectors, MSK Prasad, opened up about his briefing with the star of this domestic season, Mayank Agarwal. Prasad confirmed the fact that the Karnataka opener is now on the waiting list for selection in the Indian team.
Mayank Agarwal recently completed his breakthrough season in domestic cricket, amassing over 2000 runs. He is only the second batsman to achieve this feat.
The opener powered the Karnataka side to clinch the Vijay Hazare Trophy this season with the help of his 79-ball 90 on Tuesday. Furthermore, out of his last 30 outings, Mayank posted 100+ scores in eight of them, accompanied by seven 50+ scores.

This also included an unbeaten knock of 304 against Maharashtra. This caused quite a roar in the media, demanding a call-up for, now, Kings XI Punjab batsman.
“No player should be confused about where he stands. Our committee speaks to every player — even those who are to be selected and try to give them a fair picture,” suggested the Chairman of Selectors of BCCI.
Prasad claimed to assure 27-year old regarding his chances in the national team. According to the head of the selection committee, Mayank Agarwal is now on the waiting list for inclusion in the Indian squad.

“I spoke to Mayank and told him that with his brilliant performances in domestic cricket, he has now definitely got himself in the mix (national team reckoning). I told him that he is now in the queue,” affirmed MSK Prasad according to TOI.

“We have followed a pattern in our selection process. Each and every national contender is in the queue and we don’t believe that anyone can jump the queue. Mayank is a wonderful kid and he completely understood what I explained to him. He told me ‘Sir, you are spot on and ‘I am not in a hurry at all’,” justified the former Indian international.

On India’s performance in South Africa
MSK concluded by asserting that the touring party to South Africa was the best possible team sent and was all praises for captain Virat Kohli.
“I had said before the start of the South African tour that this is our best team and I stand by it completely. The Test series was a case of so-near yet-so-far. But full marks to Virat and the team management for keeping up the energy. It was not easy but Virat led from the front as he has always done,” concluded MSK Prasad.
