Time and again, the IPL has given the world of cricket new name who went on to shine at the highest stage of the game. The likes of Ravindra Jadeja, Yusuf Pathan, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya as well as Jasprit Bumrah first caught the attention with their performance in the league only. Not only that, over the years one has also seen several rags-to-riches stories emerging from the IPL.

Well, the upcoming auction could also turn out to be the same for Tamil Nadu spinner R Sai Kishore. The left-arm spinner has been turning heads with his performances in domestic circuit. In the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he has picked up twelve wickets in six games at an economy rate of 3.86 – the best among bowlers who have bowled at least 10 overs.

What makes his figures even more impressive is that he has bowled most of his 24 overs during the powerplay. He is one of the main reasons why Tamil Nadu have booked their place in the Super League stage without facing any sort of trouble. Ever since making his debut in 2017, he has helped Tamil Nadu clinch the Vijay Hazare Trophy and Deodhar Trophy.

“According to me one of the hardest phases to bowl, as a spinner, is during the Powerplay,” R Sai Kishore told ESPNcricinfo. “Sometimes, you can get away in the death, as a spinner, as the ball might be old then. With just two fielders outside the circle, it is very hard to control the runs. I am really thankful to have that skillset to bowl in the Powerplay. The hard lengths and the change of pace you need in the Powerplay I feel I’m getting it naturally.

Time spend at CSK nets helped:

Earlier this year, R Sai Kishore was a net bowler for Chennai Super Kings and the stint helped him become a better cricketer. He revealed how a thrashing from MS Dhoni made him doubt himself before a chat with veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh motivated him to improve.

“Spending time at the CSK nets was an invaluable experience and it’s something I’ve told most of my state cricketers,” Kishore said.

“I bowled quite well in the first two days of the camp and on the third day they probably knew how I would bowl and I was whacked all over Chepauk. Of course, it was Dhoni (laughs). It was like even if I change my line or length, Dhoni kept whacking me.”

Given the way Sai Kishore has performed in recent times, it would not be surprising at all if he causes a bidding war in the upcoming auction. The spinner, who idolises Ravichandran Ashwin, could very well start his career with the Super Kings just like his idol. But for the time being, Kishore would be looking to continue his impressive performance in order to raise his stock ahead of the auction.
