Chennai Super Kings (CSK) legend MS Dhoni turned back the clock and once again finished the match for his team as his heroics in the last over bowled by Mumbai Indians’ (MI) Jaydev Unadkat handed CSK a 3-wicket win and left MI winless after seven matches in the IPL 2022.

This 33rd encounter of the IPL 2022 tournament happened at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai and saw Ravindra Jadeja winning the toss and choosing to bowl first. CSK dropped Moeen Ali and Chris Jordan to bring in Mitchell Santner and Dwaine Pretorius, while MI included Riley Meredith, Daniel Sams, and Hrithik Shokeen.

Mukesh Choudhary (3/19) proved to be the standout performer with the ball for the Chennai Super Kings as he removed Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan for ducks in the first over of the match itself and then dismissed Dewald Brevis for 4 runs.

Suryakumar Yadav with 32 and Tilak Varma with 51* were the main contributors to the MI’s final respectable total of 155/7 in 20 overs. Dwayne Bravo also contributed with 2 wickets, completing 150 scalps in the IPL for Chennai Super Kings.

In reply, Daniel Sams picked 4/30 for MI and at one stage CSK was looking in a bit of trouble as only Ambati Rayudu made 40 and Robin Uthappa made 30 runs from the top order. In the end, a cameo by Dwaine Pretorius (22 in 14 balls) brought them close to the target and MS Dhoni’s 28* in 12 balls with 3 fours and 1 six, enabled CSK to make the required 17 runs in the final over to win the match by 2 wickets and earn two points.

The last balls of the 20th over bowled by Jaydev Unadkat were hit for a six, then a four. Then Dhoni and Bravo scampered for a double. In the end, the equation came down to 4 runs in 1 ball and Dhoni basically swept Unadkat’s full ball on his pads for a four down the leg side, to give his side their second win of the tournament.

Meanwhile, Twitterverse was in complete awe after seeing the old MS Dhoni finishing the match like he used to do in old days and lauded the legendary cricketer on the social media site.
