Michael Holding, the West Indies legend, is known for not mincing words. He has shown strong sentiments for the Black Lives Matter movement and now has not sympathised with the Jofra Archer for breaking the bio-secure protocol. Archer has drawn flak for the same from the cricket fraternity and Michael Holding has also joined the bandwagon.

Jofra Archer, who ran through the West Indies top order in the second innings at Southampton, was barred from playing the second Test for breaching the biosecurity protocol. A spokesperson from the English board said that Jofra Archer breached the code of conduct while travelling between the Ageas Bowl and Emirates Old Trafford as he stopped on the way to his flat at Brighton.

Michael Holding Says 'No Sympathy' For Jofra Archer After He Breaks Bio-Secure Protocols

Michael Holding said that he has no sympathy for the way the event turned out. He also said that he does not understands why people can’t do what is required. “I have no sympathy at all. I don’t understand why people can’t just do what is required,” Holding said.

“Talking about sacrifices – Nelson Mandela spent 27 years in a little cell and he did nothing wrong – that is a sacrifice.”

“I just want to ask a few questions of the ECB and these protocols, though. I understand that protocols should be put in place but they should be a little bit more logical,” Holding added.

As a result, Jofra Archer will have to go a mandatory five day isolation period, during which he will be tested twice. He will be a part of the team again only if both the tests turn out to be negative. During a novel coronavirus pandemic situation the step taken by Jofra Archer has been widely criticised among the cricket fraternity.

Archer played his eighth Test at Southampton. He was picked up ahead of Stuart Broad in the Test match. The Barbadian has picked up 33 wickets with an average of 28 in the longest format of the game.
