Yuzvendra Chahal turned his and India’s day into a dramatic one, playing a significant role in their victory in the first T20 international against Australia in Canberra. Yuzvendra Chahal, who did not even get the nod in the playing eleven, delivered a match-winning spell as India secured an 11-run victory to take an early lead in the series. Former English cricketer Michael Vaughan has heaped praises on the leggie.

Yuzvendra Chahal came in place of Ravindra Jadeja, who suffered a concussion due to a bouncer from Mitchell Starc. While Chahal made it to the eleven as a concussion replacement, it divided the cricketing fraternity as many reckoned he is not the exact like for like replacement. But he hurt Australia with his leg-spin bowling, finished with figures of 4-0-25-3, accounting for Aaron Finch, Steve Smith, and Matthew Wade.

Michael Vaughan said that having not earned a selection for any match, any player would be sulking sitting on the bench and complain to their teammates. As for Yuzvendra Chahal, Vaughan reckons that it does not happen so often that one has to bowl suddenly without being selected for the same.

I reckon it’s about taking a chance. It’s down to choosing individuals. You sit on the bench and sulk. You complain it to some of your teammates that you are not playing and you have a mindset that when I get my chance. Today, he got a chance in the game. It doesn’t happen too often that you suddenly are allowed to bowl in the game when you are not selected for it,” Vaughan told Cricbuzz.

Vaughan remains confident that Chahal will be playing on Sunday for the second T20I certainly and as a top-notch T20 bowler, the 31-year old seized the chance and bowled beautifully. The 45-year old added that the leggie would play yet again at the SCG, where the Australian batsmen got the better of him and will eye redemption.

Again, it’s a strange era of cricket. Yeah, he’ll be playing on Sunday that’s for sure. He bowled beautifully. He’s a high class T20 bowler. He goes back at the SCG where the Australians got the better of him in the 50-over game. Now, it’s his time to play a couple of T20s to have his final say with the ball,” he added.
