Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is likely to appoint former Pakistan head coach Mickey Arthur after their fall out with Chandika Hathurusinghe following the ICC World Cup 2019 exit. However, Arthur has a contract with the Central Stags for the Central T20 competition and will have to go give up the job.

The 51-year-old Arthur, who has coached South Africa and Australia in the past, left his role as Pakistan’s head coach following the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019, where Pakistan failed to make it to the semi-final. Although Mickey Arthur wanted to continue in his role but Pakistan Cricket Board didn’t seem interested to have him on board anymore.

During his tenure with South Africa from 2005 to 2010, Arthur helped Proteas achieve the top position in the MRF Tyres ICC Test Team Rankings, saw them beat England in a series for the first time in four decades, and register their maiden series victory in Australia in 2008-09.

Mickey Arthur also helped Pakistan to the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 title and also oversaw the Sarfaraz Ahmed-led side retain the top spot in the T20I rankings. It will be a huge boost for Sri Lanka, who is going through a transition period if Arthur takes up the job.

Sri Lanka have been struggling to put desirable performances in international cricket for quite some time now. They brought in Chandika Hathurusinghe from Bangladesh to change their luck but nothing worked. As a result of which, they parted ways with the former Sri Lankan and was in search of an experienced coach for some months now.
