Former Indian cricketers Sanjay Manjrekar believes that batsmen had a significant role to play in the first qualifier between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals in Dubai on Thursday. Mumbai Indians heavily beat Delhi Capitals in the first of the two qualifiers of IPL 2020 to march into their sixth final in history. While Jasprit Bumrah, for his four-wicket haul, received the man of the match award, Sanjay Manjrekar backs the batsmen to have received it.

Delhi Capitals had no answers to Mumbai Indians’ power-hitting and brilliant display of bowling that scripted their 57-run loss. Despite losing Suryakumar Yadav and Kieron Pollard in quick succession for less than 120, Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya were able to lift their side to 191. Following that, Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult wrecked the Capitals’ top-order as they shared six wickets between them.

Sanjay Manjrekar observed that one should look at how the game was placed at the half-way stage before deciding on the man of the match award since Mumbai Indians batsmen had it sealed with the bat. He acknowledged the outstanding bowling spells by Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult; however, Manjrekar got set on batsmen getting the award.
