MS Dhoni and Chennai Super Kings are a match made in heaven. The former India skipper started his journey with the Chennai-based franchise right from the first-ever season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and is still leading them. He did play for Rising Pune Supergiant for two years in the middle but only because the Super Kings were serving a suspension.
As soon as the suspension ended, MS Dhoni returned to lead the Super Kings and led them to the title to cap off the comeback season in style. Earlier this year, he led Super Kings to another final where they lost to Mumbai Indians. Overall Dhoni has led the team to three IPL titles as well as the now-scrapped Champions League T20 glory.

The former India skipper has led the three-time IPL winners to the playoffs in each and every season that the franchise has played. What makes his bond with the team special is his huge fanbase in Chennai. He is fondly called Thala by the Super Kings faithful and rarely disappoint them with his performance on the field.

Dhoni to end his association with Super Kings?
MS Dhoni playing for any other team in IPL is just unimaginable. However, it can become a reality in 2021. The 38-year old has reportedly confirmed that he would play IPL in 2021 but has asked the Super Kings not to retain him after the next season. There will be a mega auction in 2021 and Dhoni has expressed his interest to go into the auction pool.
“He wants to go back to the auction pool for the big auction that will take place ahead of the 2021 season. That will give CSK the option of using the Right-to-Match card to pick him, may be for a lower price. Being the captain he is, Dhoni is ready to sacrifice money for the CSK cause,” a source from Super Kings told The Times of India.
Well, the Super Kings will have little option if Dhoni ask them to release him. But they can secure his services again by using the Right to Match card in the auction. And given Dhoni’s popularity in Chennai, the franchise will be more than eager to buy him back.
