Before the start of the six-match ODI series, two of the most highly anticipated landmarks for India’s quintessential wicket-keeper batsman, MS Dhoni, were the 10,000 run mark with the bat and 400-dismissal mark with the gloves.

While one has to wait for MSD to raise his bat after reaching the hallowed 10K club, with the recent dismissal of Aiden Markram off Kuldeep Yadav’s bowling, he now has 400 dismissals to his name.

In fact, he is now only the fourth wicket-keeper in ODIs to reach the 400-mark. Legends such as Kumar Sangakkara, Adam Gilchrist, Mark Boucher were the previous trailblazers of the 400-dismissal mark. The Lankan giant sits on top of the three with 482 dismissals to his name in as many as 404 games.

MS has achieved the rare feat in 315 games he has represented India internationally which involves a whopping 106 stumpings. Dhoni has the most number of dismissals to his name via stumpings with Sangakkara’s tally of 99 stumping the closest. The stats above tells us that there seldom arrives a wicketkeeper with the electric ability of MSD behind the stumps.

MS Dhoni overhauled Sangakkara’s tally of stumpings last year when India toured Sri Lanka in August. Proteas captain Aiden Markram was going great guns during South Africa’s pursuit of India’s total at Cape Town today.

With the score at 79/1, Markram, on 32, was looking to consolidate by milking the spinners to go deep into the inning along with a well-set Duminy at the other end.

However, South Africa’s nemesis this series, Kuldeep Yadav, broke the solid-looking partnership the very second ball he delivered. Markram could not read Yadav’s googly while looking to score a single towards mid-wicket.

MSD, as usual, was up to the task , as he removed the ball before the skipper could comprehend what unravelled in front of him.
