MS Dhoni Wants You To Do What You Can Do; Rohit Sharma Thinks Wickets All The Time: Harbhajan Singh

MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma are two of the most successful captains in the history of the Indian Premier League. While MS Dhoni has led Chennai Super Kings to the playoffs of every single IPL season besides winning three titles and two Champions League trophies, Rohit Sharma has spearheaded Mumbai Indians to a record four titles, ever since he took over the leadership reigns during the 2013 season.

Harbhajan Singh, former Indian off-spinner, has played a lot of cricket under the leadership of both MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma. Under Dhoni, the off-spinner has played both for India and his current franchise Chennai Super Kings, Rohit Sharma, on the other hand, led Bhajji during his stay with the Mumbai Indians between 2013-2017.

Harbhajan Singh explains the contrasting styles of MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma 

Harbhajan, during a recent interview with ESPN Cricinfo Cricket Monthly, revealed the difference in approach of both MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma as far as handling their bowlers is concerned.

*He is not a captain who says, do this, do that. He wants you to do what you know you can do. Bowl what you know you can. If you can bowl six offspinners, do that. Yes, he has nudged me at times — from behind the stumps or at change of overs — saying, this guy is trying to do this or will try this. But he never tells me what to do.” Harbhajan said.

Talking about Rohit Sharma’s leadership style, the turbanator said that while he also gives freedom to his bowlers, he is aggressive and thinks wickets all the time.

“Rohit also gives a lot of freedom to the bowlers but thinks wickets at all times. He will not interfere with your bowling. If you want an attacking field, he will give it. It is not compulsory that if a left-hander comes, you get a slip whether the balls spins or not. Then at times we have had a short leg and two slips,” Harbhajan explained.

Rohit has had an edge over MS Dhoni as far as IPL finals are concerned. Three of the four IPL titles that Mumbai Indians have come at the expense of Chennai Super Kings in the finals.
