MS Dhoni might look like one of the least animated characters on the cricket field but there have been numerous off the field instance that show even Captain Cool struggles to contain his emotions sometimes. India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has recently revealed one such instance as he paid tribute to the former India skipper.

MS Dhoni, on Saturday (August 15), brought down curtains on his international career. Having retired from Tests way back in 2014, MS Dhoni hanged up his boots in ODIs and T20Is too. Just like retiring silently and suddenly from ODIs and T2oIs, MS Dhoni had ended his Test career in a similar manner.

Recalling the game, Ashwin revealed MS Dhoni could not control his emotions and shed a few tears. He further revealed that MS Dhoni wore his Test jersey all night after the match ended.

“I remember when he retired from Test cricket in 2014, I was batting with him to save the match in Melbourne,” said Ashwin in a video posted on his YouTube channel.

“But once we lost, he simply picked up a stump and walked off saying he’s done. It was quite an emotional moment for him. Ishant Sharma, Suresh Raina and I were sitting in his room that evening. He was still wearing his Test match jersey through the entire night and he shed a few tears as well,” he added.

Ashwin further revealed how he first met MS Dhoni. He revealed his first interaction with the former India skipper happened when he was a net bowler before an ODI between India and West Indies in Chennai before the inaugural edition of the IPL in 2008.

“I first met him as a net bowler during an India-West Indies ODI at Chepauk. And then when I joined Chennai Super Kings in 2008, I got to work with him and learn a lot. He had that long hair when I met him earlier but then after spending time with him at CSK I realised what a mature leader he was,” he said.

Well, Ashwin did not take long to impress his former Chennai Super Kings captain. Soon after doing well in the IPL, he earned his maiden India call-up and became an integral part of the team across formats. He was a part of the team that won the 2011 World Cup under MS Dhoni’s captaincy.
