Indian opener Murali Vijay spoke about his County signing with Essex. The flamboyant batsman who struggled to get going in the English conditions on the recent tour said he is looking forward to the County stint. Vijay scored a total of only 26 runs in the first Test match before bagging a pair in the second Test match at Lord’s. Thus, the right-hander was dropped from the third Test playing XI.

In fact, Vijay was also dropped from the squad for the final two Test matches after his dry run of form. Thus, Vijay will definitely have a point to prove in the English conditions while playing for Essex.

Murali Vijay will like to make a return to the Indian side.

Meanwhile, Vijay can open the innings with Alastair Cook, who is playing his swansong in the ongoing fifth Test match. The stylish batsman has all the experience under his belt. Thus, it has been surprising to see him out of touch in the recent times.

Vijay has a potent technique, however, he has looked to play at deliveries he would have liked to leave in the past. Therefore, the Tamil Nadu batsman will like to get the much-needed confidence to play in the English conditions. Vijay had scored 402 runs in the previous tour of 2014 but could not hit the ground running in 2018.

Meanwhile, Gautam Gambhir and Harbhajan Singh have also plied on their trade for Essex.

Murali Vijay said he cannot wait to play for the County. “I was here with the India side about a month ago and saw first-hand just how good the crowd is. I can’t wait to play for Essex and hopefully win some matches,” Vijay said in a statement.
