Mohammad Kaif, probably one of the underrated cricketers in the Indian cricket says he is happy he has got his moments in the game. One of India’s greatest fielders, Kaif claims his brief career had more quality than quantity.
With the likes of Sehwag, Sachin, Dravid, Laxman and Ganguly in Indian batting department, it was always tough for any cricketer to find a place. However, the cricketer who came closest to it was Mohammad Kaif.
I had no choice, but to wait for my turn – Mohammad Kaif

The solid Indian fielder admitted he has no other option apart from waiting for his call.
India got the solid players in the batting lineup, and there was no chance for any others to break into the team.
Even though if someone gets a chance to replace the injured players, despite scoring runs, the player will get replaced once the regular batsman gets fit. However, Kaif is happy with the knocks he had played for India.
”I made my debut in 2000 against South Africa and played for six years after that, but I only managed 13 Tests during that time. Was dropped a few times and scored 91 in one match but was dropped for the next game. I scored a century in my last Test series, 148 not out against the West Indies in 2006, but I was not selected for the next series,” Mohammed Kaif said.
”That is because I played in an era where we had so many good players — Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman, Virender Sehwag, Sourav Ganguly. Even Yuvraj Singh played a few games in between. So I didn’t get the chances. I had no choice, but to wait for my turn,” he added as per Rediff.

Mohammed Kaif will always be remembered as the greatest fielder:
Though he was known for his finishing abilities with the bat in his heyday, it was his brilliance in the field which made Kaif stand out among the cricketers of his era.
Mohammad Kaif took great pride in his fielding and in an era when sloppy fielding was the norm, he was a sterling exception. The then captain Sourav Ganguly and coach John Wright cited Kaif as the role model to inspire the other Indian players and improve their fielding.
