South Africa’s fast bowler Vernon Philander admitted that somebody hacked his Twitter account on Wednesday night. Meanwhile, someone from Philander’s twitter account criticised Steve Smith’s role in his clash with Kagiso Rabada in Port Elizabeth.
In the second Test, Rabada made shoulder contact with Smith after dismissing him in the first innings. This incident led to Kagiso Rabada’s suspension from the ongoing series against the Aussies. Rabada has since appealed the decision to ICC.
ICC match referee Jeff Crowe found Rabada guilty of a Level 2 offence for “inappropriate and deliberate physical contact with a player”. He also received three demerit points and a fine of 50% of his match fee.
Previously, in his deleted tweet, Philander accused Smith of using his football skills to get the Proteas seamer in trouble.
“Havent really seen the fotage of this incident but by the looks of this…Steve Smith gave KG the shoulder. He could have avoided any contact but to me he is just as guilty. Trying some football skills to get a penalty??? Pity he didnt dive to top it off,” the deleted tweet said.
The comments made headlines around the world, and some Proteas fans supported Philander’s strong stance, while others were wary of a backlash from the ICC.
Somebody hacked my account:
Later Philander again in a Twitter post clarified that it was not him saying that. Further, he claimed that somebody hacked his Twitter account.
Good morning all my tweeps. Waking up this morning to alot of twitter craziness as my acc got hacked and someone posted a nice little article on my behalf. Sorry for all the drama or entertainment caused by the looks of it. Have a great day all.
“Good morning all my tweeps. Waking up this morning to alot of twitter craziness as my acc got hacked and someone posted a nice little article on my behalf. Sorry for all the drama or entertainment caused by the looks of it. Have a great day all,” the Proteas pacer cleared his stance.
Meanwhile, Rabada is now waiting on the ICC to appoint a judicial commissioner for the appeal hearing. He will hope to be cleared and made available for the next game.
The second game starts from March 22 at Cape Town.
