Indian spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has been hitting the peak performances in the limited-overs by taking wickets in crucial situations of the game. However, the wrist-spinner is yet to feature in a Test match for India. He has played 50 ODIs and 34 T20Is so far, accounting for a total of 135 scalps to his name. He is also the fastest bowler to claim 50 wickets in T20Is. He achieved this landmark in the recent series against Bangladesh.

The scenario in India’s spin department is quite competitive at the moment with Chahal’s mate Kuldeep Yadav taking a backseat because of poor form. However, when he is not bowling in the training session, he can be seen interviewing his teammates or chatting with them in one corner of the dressing room, or playing PubG on his phone.

The 29-year-old spinner admitted that keeping things simple helped him to get the best out of him. Being a top spinner, he wants to remain consistent and perform in every situation of the game. “As a professional player, you need to perform in every situation and I am just trying to continue with that,” he says.

In Mumbai, to spice it up in the group league fixtures of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for Haryana, Chahal, in an interview to Sportstar at the Bandra-Kurla Complex, spoke about his learning experience. When asked about whether he is under pressure after Kuldeep Yadav taking a backseat in limited-overs cricket, he stated that his job is to play at the top level.

He went on to add saying that he shared a great camaraderie with Kuldeep Yadav. He also stated that he enjoyed bowling with him. But now, Chahal is bowling with different bowlers while adding that it is a good challenge and that he is certainly not under pressure.

“We are professional cricketers, so our job is to perform at whatever level we are playing. I played with Kuldeep for two years as a pair and there was a good bonding with him. I enjoyed bowling with him as we had a great understanding. But now that he is focusing on Tests, I am bowling with Jaddu (Ravindra Jadeja), Krunal (Pandya) and Rahul Chahar.

It has been a good learning experience for me because, after two years, I am suddenly bowling with different people. It’s a good challenge, so I would not say that there’s any pressure. As a professional player, you need to perform in every situation and I am just trying to continue whatever I did in the last two years,” Chahal signed off.
