New Zealand vs India 2020: Amazing To Win A Game Overseas For India - Shreyas Iyer

Temperamentally strong Shreyas Iyer once again delivered for the Indian team when it mattered the most. The flamboyant batsman smashed an unbeaten 58* to help India draw the first blood in the five-match T20I series. The brilliant knock fetched him yet another Man of the Match in his 16-match career so far in the T20I format.

Chasing a tally of 204 on the board, India had not a start that they wanted. However, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli in the middle overs played a decent role to keep the scoreboard ticking. Besides, the wicket of Shivam Dube further stretched the vows for India. But, Iyer stood tall for the team to make things fall in place.

He picked his bowlers and made sure to get runs as per the requirement. Iyer smashed five boundaries and three massive sixes to help India seal a comfortable victory with an over to spare. He remained unbeaten on 58* to finish the game in style.

Speaking of his effort, Iyer expressed his delight for finishing the game for India in overseas.

Iyer further stated that the team discussed stitching partnerships in the middle. He was also confident of chasing the tally with shorter boundaries on offer.

”Amazing to win a game overseas and finishing not out is special. We had lost quick wickets, so we had to build partnerships. We always knew we can score runs because this is a small ground. Looking forward to similar support in the remaining games as well,” Shreyas Iyer said in the post-match presentation.

All in all, it was a fine effort from Iyer on Friday. With the ICC World Cup 2020 on his target list, the performance against New Zealand has inched him closer to his goal. The youngster would hope to repeat the magic when both teams lock horns at the same venue on Sunday.
