It was a comeback for the ages by New Zealand as they won their fourth consecutive ODI against India and sealed a 3-0 sweep to draw parity on this tour. After sustaining a gut-wrenching loss in the shortest format, the Kiwis were under pressure to make a comeback without their key players at the helm.

However, New Zealand’s domestic circuit possessed enough depth to sideline the men in blue in all the facets to hand them a historic series whitewash.

The likes of Ross Taylor, Tom Latham, and Martin Guptill played some serious knocks under pressure followed by Kyle Jamieson, Colin De Grandhomme, and Henry Nicholls making significant contributions of their own.

We take a look at New Zealand’s players’ ratings for the ODI series:

Henry Nicholls – 9/10

Henry Nicholls has risen as one of the best opening batsmen in this very series.

With scores of 78, 43, and 80, the southpaw methodically dismantled India’s esteemed bowling attack with ease. With 199 runs in three innings at an average of 66.33, he receives a rating of 9/10.

Martin Guptill – 9/10

The opening partnership for both sides was significant for their fortunes. And Martin Guptill went on to convert all his starts to a massive score to set the base for the middle-order to cash in.

The 33-year old averaged 59 in three innings, accumulating 177 runs and earns a rating of 9/10 as well.

Tom Blundell – 5/10

Tom Blundell supposedly took the place of Kane Williamson for the first two games.

In his knock of 9 and 22, the keeper-batsman did look promising and could find a place in the squad moving forward. Blundell receives a rating of 5/10.

Kane Williamson – 6/10

Kane Williamson’s absence was seen as a massive loss heading into the ODI series; however, it didn’t feel like it the way they won the first two games convincingly.

Tom Latham, who stood as the leader for him, lead the team from the front with two confidence-boosting wins.

Williamson returned as captain for the final ODI in which he scored 22 to put on a steady the ship along with Nicholls. He gets a rating of 6/10.

Words aren’t enough to express how well Latham did his job under tough circumstances for New Zealand. The 27-year old not only rotated his bowlers well and set some uncanny fields to get wickets, but he steered the team with runs under pressure.

With scores of 69, 7, and 32, he has become the Black Caps’ premier batsman in the format.

Ross Taylor – 9.5/10

One of the most underrated batsmen of this era, Ross Taylor showed in this series why he should be counted amongst the best of this generation.

It wouldn’t be wrong to say that the 35-year-old won two games almost single-handedly to snatch the victory from India.

With 194 runs in three innings, Taylor received the man of the match award and gets a rating of 9.5/10.

James Neesham – 5/10

James Neesham had a quite series compared to the talent he possesses.

The all-rounder’s highest score with the bat was 19 in three innings and snared two wickets in three games. He receives a rating of 5/10.

Colin de Grandhomme – 7/10

Leading up to the series, Colin de Grandhomme was immensely under pressure due to his slump with the bat. But he continued to pluck wickets for his side while also curbing the run-flow. With two consecutive single-figure scores off his bat, the burly all-rounder blasted 58 off 28 balls at the Bay Oval to usher New Zealand to clean sweep.

For his significant impact with the ball, picking up three wickets in crucial junctures, he receives a rating of 7/10.

Mitchell Santner – 4/10

In the two matches that Mitchell Santner featured in, he couldn’t make any inroads with the ball. However, he smashed a crucial six off Kuldeep Yadav in the first match in a chase of 347 to narrow down the equation.

For his quite minimal contribution, he gets a rating of 4/10.

Ish Sodhi – 4/10

Ish Sodhi played only in the first match in Hamilton, bowling four overs and picking up the crucial scalp of Virat Kohli. He was released to play for New Zealand A ahead of the second before getting drafted back to the squad for the third.

He receives a rating of 4/10.

Tim Southee – 7/10

The importance of Tim Southee was realized in this very series. His average of 46 and four wickets in three games may not narrate the story, but sending back the likes of Virat Kohli, Mayank Agarwal, KL Rahul, and Kedar Jadhav at very crucial stages flags the value of experience under his belt.

The 31-year old seamer was also under pressure after a torrid T20I series and to bounce back in this manner was truly commendable.

Hamish Bennett – 7.5/10

Hamish Bennett was the joint highest wicket-taker in the three-match series, picking up six scalps in three games at 33.16. Right from the T20I series, the Indian batsmen put Bennett under plenty of pressure by hammering him all over the park.

However, the 32-year old kept bouncing back step by step to emerge as one of the wicket-taking options.

Kyle Jamieson – 8/10

Kyle Jamieson’s debut turned out as one of the best, having contributed majorly to their series win. With three wickets in two matches, the towering quick appears as one of the venomous quicks alongside Trent Boult, Lockie Ferguson, and Matt Henry.

The 25-year old also stunned India with his ability to bat, crafting a knock of 25 to stitch a match-winning stand of 76 with Ross Taylor in Auckland.

Mark Chapman – 3/10

Mark Chapman is a genuine and handy batsman with an average of 32, whose only game in this series ended on a disappointing note.

He played in the second ODI in Auckland in which he gave a simple grab to the bowler Chahal for 1 from where the Kiwis further slid. Chapman receives a rating of 3/10.
