Australia speedster Pat Cummins was one of the tormentors in chief on the third day of the first Test against India in Adelaide as the hosts clinched victory by eight wickets. The bowlers played an instrumental role as India could not withstand their relentless spell of bowling in the morning, collapsing for 36. Pat Cummins believes that it is the best the team has bowled.

While Josh Hazlewood was undoubtedly the star of the day with five wickets, Pat Cummins’ four scalps were no less crucial. The 27-year old started the day by dismissing Jasprit Bumrah and soon after removed Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli that put the tourists under a spot of bother. Cummins, who claimed the wicket of Prithvi Shaw on the late second day, had figures of 10.2-4-21-4 and match figures of 31.3-11-69-8.

The collapse for 36 meant that Australia had to chase only 90 to win the first Test, take the lead in the four-match series, and maintain their perfect pink-ball Test record. Joe Burns and Matthew Wade began exceedingly well by stitching an opening stand of 70. Burns hit the winning runs over fine leg for six to bring up a fifty, sealing the victory by eight wickets.

It was just one of those days where everything came off: Pat Cummins

Pat Cummins felt that they had to bowl India for at least 200 today; however, for that to happen in the first hour, was surreal. The number one Test bowler was ecstatic that everything that they did worked and found that there is plenty of bounce on the wicket. Cummins added that they bowled fuller, keeping that in mind and bowled lines that could keep the batsmen guessing.

“It was just one of those days where everything came off, everything we tried worked. We found in the first innings there was actually a lot of bounce, so to hit the stumps it almost felt like it had to be a half volley. But when we got into our work we were able to get up there a bit fuller, make the batters make decisions, make it harder to leave the ball and fortunately it all came off today,” Pat Cummins said as quoted by India Today.
