'This Was Our Worst Ever Batting Performance'- Virat Kohli

Indian captain Virat Kohli was amongst the batsmen who failed in the second innings of the first Test in Adelaide as India recorded their lowest ever total in Test cricket. None of the batsmen, including, Virat Kohli reached double figures in the match as Australia beat them by eight wickets. The 32-year old accepts that it was an abysmal performance; however, there’s no need to make a big deal out of it.

Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins combined to skittle the tourists only for 36 through their probing line and length bowling and constantly testing the Indian batsmen’s strength. Hazlewood stole the show with five wickets in eight overs while Cummins took four in his ten as Australia came back to seal a eight-wicket victory. It helped them maintain their perfect pink-ball Test record.

Virat Kohli claimed that it was the worst batting performance put by them in Test cricket; however, he backed his teammates to step up and make telling contributions. Kohli further said that the ball was not doing too much tricks but they lacked intent in taking the game forward.

“I don’t think we have ever had a worse batting performance than this. So we can go only upwards from here and you will see guys stepping up and realising their true characters. It’s a strange one to be honest in my opinion. The ball didn’t do too much but we didn’t have too much intent of going out there and taking the game forward,” Kohli said as quoted by Times Now.

The right-handed batsman admitted that it was a horror show by the Indian batsmen; however, it is senseless to make a mountain out of molehill. Hence, instead of delving into the past, Kohli wishes that India makes a strong comeback in the remaining Tests.

“Everything happened so quickly that no one could make any sense of it. I don’t think it’s alarming and we can very well sit here and make a mountain out of molehill, it’s basically looking at things in the right prospective. Rather than going into the past as to what has happened and let it linger on in future, I don’t think that’s productive at all,” he added.
