The Men in Blue registered their 1st victory in the Nidahas Trophy by beating Bangladesh in the 2nd ODI of the tournament. It was Bangladesh skipper Mahmudullah who won the toss and elected to bat. Openers Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar began with a couple of boundaries. However, the Indian bowlers made a comeback and reduced them to 35/2.
Jaydev Unadkat bagged the wicket of Tamim Iqbal while Shardul Thakur scalped out Soumya Sarkar. The Indian bowlers were quite brilliant in the middle overs and never allowed the Bangladesh batsmen to go after them. Liton Das scored 34 of 30 deliveries while Sabbir Rahman made 30 of 26 deliveries.
Debutant Vijay Shankar made good use of his opportunity and bagged the Man of the Match Award for his wonderful spell in his very first match. He bagged 2 wickets conceding only 32 runs. Jaydev Unadkat was the most successful bowler for India. He ended up with 3 wickets but was a little expensive. He gave away 38 runs in his 4 overs spell.
While chasing the total, Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan began in a brisk fashion. Both played some delightful shots but it was Mustafizur Rahman who provided the Bangla Tigers with the maiden breakthrough. The Indian skipper played on to a short of length delivery straight on to his stumps.
Rishabh Pant was elevated up the order. The southpaw struck a boundary before being dismissed by Rubel Hossain. From there on it was again an exhibition of strokeplay by Shikhar Dhawan who struck some wonderful shots. Dhawan struck 5 fours and a couple of sixes as he struck yet another half-century.
Raina chipped in with a useful 28 of 27 deliveries. He struck a four and a six. In the end, it was Manish Pandey who sealed te deal for India after Dhawan and Raina were dismissed in quick intervals. Pandey remained unbeaten on 27 of 19 deliveries. He struck 3 fours during his knock. The Men in Blue eventually won the match by 6 wickets.
