Young India and Mumbai opener Prithvi Shaw has said that he is not happy with his performances in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2022, where he is captaining the Mumbai team. Shaw last played a Test for India in Adelaide in the infamous 36 all-out match. His last outing for India was a T20I match against Sri Lanka in July 2021.

Shaw started his career promisingly with a century against West Indies, but since then he has tapered off a bit. Injury and unwitting doping offenses have derailed a promising career that has still a lot to offer. He was supposed to make his big comeback in Australia on the 2020-21 Tour of Australia. But his 0 and 4 proved to be his last outings for India since then.

India has moved onto KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma as openers with Mayank Agarwal being the backup and Priyank Panchal waiting in wings. In the three matches thus far in the Ranji Trophy 2022, the 22-year-old has scores of 1 against Saurashtra, 9&44 against Goa, and 53 against Odisha.

Not Really Happy With My Performance: Prithvi Shaw On Ranji Trophy Thus Far

Shaw knows that he has to perform a lot better to have a chance of returning even though the youngster is happy with the progress he’s making.

“Not really happy with my performance, should have been much better. You know 40s and 50s is nothing in cricket. But I feel it’s okay. I have been batting well and am feeling that something special is just around the corner,” Shaw told Sportstar.

However, Shaw will have a hectic calendar coming up as after the league stages of the Ranji Trophy get over, he will move to IPL 2022 where he will play for Delhi Capitals, who retained him ahead of the mega auction. Shaw will once again, from the T20 mound, will have to transform into a Test set-up.

“Definitely, it’s a long break. The next two and half months, many will shift focus to the IPL and will be playing white-ball. It’s going to be a matter of how we switch on again in the red-ball mode once the IPL is over.

We will have to train hard in that short window just like we did for the league stage. It will be harder because you cannot take anyone for granted and all the teams are quality oppositions. It will be an opportunity for all of us to play the knockouts and do our best for Mumbai,” Shaw said.

The IPL 2022 begins from March 26 onwards.
