MS Dhoni’s form was a talking point for all the wrong reasons just a month ago. The former India skipper had a 2018 to forget where he faced criticism from every quarter for his indifferent displays with the bat. However, Dhoni has started 2019 with a bang. He started the year on a bitter-sweet note, scoring a fifty in the first ODI against Australia. However, he faced criticism for consuming as many as 96 deliveries as India lost the game by 34 runs. But in just the following game, he made a big mark with both wicketkeeping gloves as well as the bat.
He first impressed with the wicketkeeping gloves before making a winning contribution with the bat. The 37-year old scored an unbeaten fifty to take India home.. He came to the crease when India were in a precarious position despite skipper Virat Kohli looking in ominous form at the other end. India needed 139 off 118 deliveries when Dhoni joined Kohli at the crease and there were apprehensions that the World Cup-winning skipper’s knack of using too many deliveries early on can hurt India.
However, Dhoni was in his elements and mastered the chase by scoring 55 off 54 balls. He also hit a six on the first ball of the last over when India needed seven before taking a single to complete the win. In the third ODI, he scored another unbeaten 50 to guide India to their first-ever bilateral ODI series win on the Australian soil.
Dhoni has looked good in the ongoing series against New Zealand. In the second ODI, he slammed unbeaten 48 before missing the next two games with injuries.
Meanwhile, Dhoni’s ever-growing list of admirers has now another name to it and the person is Nupur Nagar, wife of India pace bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Nupur Nagar recently conducted a question and answer session on Instagram. During it, one of her followers asked her about her favourite cricketer apart from her husband. In reply, Nupur said MS Dhoni.
