The dramatic collapse of England in the day-night Test at Eden Park in Auckland has taken cricketing world by surprise. The pace bowling duo in the form of Trent Boult and Tim Southee have ruined the day for visitors.

The pink-ball Test witnessed a dramatic passage of play in the afternoon session.

With the culmination of day-one of the first Test, the Black Caps have extended the lead to 117.

Moreover, skipper Kane Williamson led from the front to keep the scoreboard ticking. The Kiwis were 175 for three in 69 overs when stumps were removed from the groove.

Williamson is batting on 91 off 177 balls. His constructive innings is comprised of 10 boundaries and a maximum.

The middle-order batsman Henry Nicholls is unbeaten on 67-ball 24.

Opening batsman Jeet Raval was removed early by pace spearhead James Anderson. Gloveman Jonny Bairstow caught the 29-year-old left-handed batsman. The Gujarat-born Raval scored three off 23 balls when Kiwis score was eight in 8.2 overs.

However, another left-handed opener Tom Latham stitched a crucial 84-run stand for the second wicket alongside Williamson. Latham was caught by Chris Woakes on the bowling of Stuart Broad. He faced a marathon of 112 deliveries for his 26.

Anderson dismissed the experienced campaigner after Woakes completed a simple catch in the thirty-yard circle.

Earlier, England was strangulated at 58. It was overall sixth lowest Test score for England in the Test format since January 28, 1887. However, regarding overs faced it is the third lowest for the English team.

Interestingly, with England’s ship sinking it was number nine batsman Craig Overton, who saved the Three Lions from the lowest of the Ebb in their cricketing history.

The 23-year-old right-handed batsman Overton remained unbeaten on 25-ball 33. His innings included five boundaries and a solitary six.

As many as five batsmen were dismissed on a duck which included skipper Joe Root and a comeback man Ben Stokes.

Subsequently, the most intriguing part of the Test opener was Williamson sticking to their two premier bowlers. Boult started off the proceedings and finished with his magical figures of six for 32 in 10.4 overs.

However, Southee also rose to the occasion to bag four wickets after giving away 25 runs in 10 overs.
