Our Pool Strong Enough to Make Two Indian Teams - Shreyas Iyer

India’s talented batsman Shreyas Iyer believes the country’s group of players is strong enough that we can make two national teams out of it. India is producing great talent and the team is reaping the fruits. The team has a good bench strength and they are ticking the right boxes. Thus, it is difficult to get a place in the Indian national side.

Shreyas Iyer had recently led India B into the final of the Deodhar Trophy. The right-hander had also made a fine 148 in the finale. However, his efforts went in vain as India C led by Ajinkya Rahane went on to win the tournament.

Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer said he will keep on trying till the end as it is his dream to be part of India’s World Cup squad. Iyer had received his chance in the Indian team and had also done well. However, he was dropped for an unknown reason despite performing well.

Nevertheless, Iyer was able to make a return to the T20I side for the three-match series against Windies and Australia.

“I will keep on trying till the end as it is my dream to play the 2019 World Cup. I have the belief that I will make it,” the 23-year-old tells India Today.

Therefore, the Mumbai batsman is happy to get his chance in the T20I squad to prove his mettle. Iyer will have six matches (if he is selected in the playing XI) to prove his worth.

“I couldn’t make it to the ODI squad (against the West Indies) but I was expecting my selection in the T20 format as I have done well recently. Good thing is that I am in the T20 squad going to Australia too. So, at the back of my mind, I know that I have been given a long run to perform.”

Shreyas Iyer has been in good form in the recent past as he has scored three hundred in the domestic circuit. Thus, Iyer will look to carry the same form to International level. However, Iyer will have to battle against the healthy competition to seal his place.

“This (healthy competition) is a great thing. If you see, with so much talent available, we can actually make two Indian teams. We are getting to see a hundred in every game. This is such a good thing for Indian cricket.”

Shreyas Iyer had led Mumbai to glory in the Vijay Hazare trophy and would be confident after a good show in the domestic season. Iyer will like to carry on in a similar fashion.
