India fast-bowler Umesh Yadav gave his teammates a tough time in the nets in Guwahati ahead of the second T20I between India and South Africa. The pacer was initially not a part of India’s squad for the series but was later added to the squad after  fellow pacer Mohammed Shami tested positive for COVID-19.

Yadav’s limited-overs career in international cricket had looked as good as over until he impressed in this year’s IPL while playing for Kolkata Knight Riders. The right-arm pacer not only impressed with his pace but also the swing he extracted on the Indian pitches.

Yadav has been duly rewarded for his performance with a recall into the T20I team and the pacer has started making an impression on the team management. According to a report in Hindustan Times, the 34-year old breathed fire in the nets while bowling to his teammates.

Umesh Yadav’s fiery net session:

According to the report, such was Umesh Yadav’s performance in the nets that everyone present in the ground – the net bowlers, ball boys, even the the security personnel got involved and created a match-like atmosphere. Rishabh Pant was the first India player to get in the pacer’s firing line.

The report stated that Yadav made Pant’s life tough with a barrage of short-pitched deliveries. At one stage, Pant even told Yadav – “Out hi karna hai na bas (You are only trying to get me out, right)?”, after a bouncer whizzed past his helmet. Pant clearly asked Yadav to take it easy.

After Pant, it was fellow wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik’s turn to face the music. Yadav went on to uproot Karthik’s stumps with a brilliant delivery before peppering him with short-pitched deliveries. Shreyas Iyer had to face some bouncers too. Well, Yadav is in contention to play in the T20 World Cup 2022 after Jasprit Bumrah’s injury and if he continues to impress, he could be on the plane to Australia.
