Pakistan Cricketers Donate PKR 10 Million In Prime Minister COVID-19 Relief Fund

The proliferation of coronavirus [COVID-19] has proceeded to put the entire world under severe economic stress. And in a bid to help those who have greatly distressed with the lockdown, several relief funds have been set-up by governments around the world.

In India, the BCCI and several state associations have donated towards the relief funds set-up by the Prime Minister as well as the state governments. On Saturday, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) joined the bandwagon after they deposited a total of PKR 10,536,500 (approximately one crore and five lakh Pakistan rupees) in the Prime Minister’ COVID-19 pandemic relief fund.

“I want to thank all the centrally contracted players and the PCB staff for their generous contributions in the Prime Minister’s COVID-19 Pandemic Relief Fund. Cricket has once again demonstrated that it values, respects and cares for its fans, followers, and supporters, and will continue to do so,” Ehsan Mani, PCB head, was quoted as saying by ANI

Mani added:  “In these difficult times, we pray for the health and safety of our paramedics and other frontline fighters, and hope the government will succeed in its endeavors in overcoming this pandemic,”

Earlier PCB had announced that the centrally contracted players will make a collective contribution in the emergency fund while the board will separately match the contribution made by the staff.

The board had also ruled out that there would be no unusual cuts for players or staff in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Cricketers are the biggest stakeholders in Pakistan cricket, both domestic and international. I want to assure everyone, that their interests will be safeguarded in the best possible way. There would not be any unusual cuts,” Mani had said.

Mani had also revealed that all retired cricketers will continue to get their pensions and the Pakistan Cricket Board’s main priority would be to safeguard its players and staff.

Meanwhile, the total COVID-19 cases in Pakistan have reached above the 7000 marks (7481). While 1832 have recovered, 143 have succumbed to the pandemic.
