Pakistan Reclaims Top Spot in Latest ICC T20I Rankings

Asian giants Pakistan have regained their numero uno status in the shortest format of the game after a 2-1 series victory against the Kiwis at the Bay Oval in Tauranga on Sunday. This is the 3rd time in as many months that Pakistan has surged on to the top of the ICC Rankings. Pakistan entered the series trailing number one team New Zealand by just a couple of points, but after the series win, they have leapfrogged New Zealand to jump to 126 points while New Zealand has slipped to 123 points.
Team India is 3rd on 121 points while England with 119 and West Indies with 115 points occupies the 4th and 5th position respectively. Pakistan had first surged in the No 1 rankings during the India v New Zealand series in October 2017. When India won the opening encounter, Pakistan regained their No 1 position, but after New Zealand’s victory in the 2nd match they moved up again. However, a victory in the decider for India meant Pakistan regained the top spot yet again.
However, Pakistan’s joy was short lived as New Zealand reclaimed the top spot when they defeated Windies by a 2-0 margin earlier in the month. They will have another crack at the No 1 rankings when they take part in the next month’s T20I Tri-Series also involving Australia and England.
