Papua New Guinea have scripted history as they booked their berth for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 after their staggering performances in the East Asia Pacific Qualifier. They secured their place following their win against the Philippines.

Papua New Guinea, who entered the qualifiers as the favourites, dominated that league as they so far are undefeated and have won 5 out of their games. They thumped Vanuatu and the Philippines twice and also handed Japan a defeat.

Papua New Guinea kick-started their campaign with a 9-wicket win against Vanuatu. After that, they thumped the Philippines by massive 117 runs before defeating Japan and Vanuatu again by six wickets and 39 runs respectively. In their latest encounter, they outclassed the Philippines by 100 runs to complete their fifth straight win.

Papua New Guinea now has 10 points from 5 games which are enough to qualify for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Their next match is against Japan, which will be played on Saturday, 29 July. A win here would mean that they will stay unbeaten in the tournament.
