Australian speedster, Pat Cummins is gearing up for the four-match Test series which commences in a week’s time with a day-night contest against Virat Kohli’s Indian team in Adelaide. Cummins, who is at the top of the ICC Test bowling rankings, is glad that he bowls to Steve Smith only in the nets.

The seamer funnily remarks that he doesn’t have to come up against Kane Williamson in New Zealand considering that the Kiwi skipper struck a double hundred versus West Indies. Smith and Williamson are the top two batsmen in the ICC Test ranking followed by Virat Kohli and Marnus Labuschagne. India and Australia shared the honours of the tour currently – the hosts won the ODI series, and the visitors were victorious in the T20I series.

Also, there has been too much friendliness observed between the two sides in what was expected to be an otherwise heated contest; Finch giggling with KL Rahul or the Indian wicket-keeper motivating Cameron Green and smiles shared between the batsman and the bowler after a bouncer instead of long stares.

Australia’s Test vice-captain, Pat Cummins opines that the rivalry between him the Indian batters, especially Virat Kohli will lift up once they are out in the field. The 27-year-old underlines that a bowler could sense a wicket when the batter walks in to bat. Cummins took 59 wickets in 2019 averaging a terrific 20.

In a virtual press conference, Pat Cummins said,“I’m happy I don’t have to bowl to Steve Smith. I saw Kane Williamson’s double hundred last week. So, I’m pretty glad I’m not playing there (in New Zealand) as well.

“I think when you are in the moment, you try and maybe lift (the rivalry with the opposition batsman) a little bit. You sense it at the wicket when someone walks out there.”

The visitors will be without their leader in the last three Test matches. Kohli will return home after the Adelaide Test to attend the birth of his first child, therefore missing the matches in Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane. Ajinkya Rahane will lead the team in Kohli’s absence.
