Paul Nixon Backs England To Win T20 World Cup
Former England wicketkeeper Paul Nixon believes England are the favourites for this year’s T20 World Cup. This year’s T20 World Cup is scheduled to take place in October-November in Australia. As of now, there are big question marks over the fate of the competition because of the coronavirus pandemic.
But if the tournament does take place, Paul Nixon believes that reigning 50-over world champions England would be the favourites for the title. England are arguably the most feared limited-overs team in the world right now and their triumph at last year’s World Cup has only enhanced their reputation.
“I think England are gonna win it. West India and India will be very close. West Indies have got a very serious T20 team,” Paul Nixon told Cricket Addictor in an exclusive chat.
He further explained the reason behind picking his country as the favourites, saying:
“The amount of one-day cricket that the English players play in domestic cricket and in international cricket, they play so much cricket now, the guys have so much experience. For World Cups, you need experience, you need calm heads, you need people who can breathe and just take the time.”
Paul Nixon went on to say that while England, West Indies and India are favourites to make it to the semifinal, England will be the team to beat in the tournament. England were the runners-up in the last edition of the T20 World Cup where they had lost to West Indies in the final.
India, on the other hand, had made it to the semifinal of the competition with Wet Indies ending their World Cup dream too.
