Umran Malik of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) was awarded the Player of the Match award in his team’s recent 7-wicket victory over the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the 28th match of the ongoing IPL 2022 tournament, which was played at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on April 17, 2022.
Punjab Kings batted first after Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Kane Williamson won the toss and chose to bowl. PBKS was captained by Shikhar Dhawan as Mayank Agarwal hurt his toe during nets.
Umran Malik led the SRH bowling attack as he picked his IPL career-best bowling figures of 4/28. This included three wickets in the last over of PBKS innings. In the process, he also became only the fourth bowler in IPL history to bowl a maiden in the 20th over of the innings.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar seemed back to his best as he picked 3/22 in his 4 overs, as PBKS only managed 151 runs. Liam Livingstone top-scored with 60 in 33 balls with 4 sixes and 5 fours, while Shahrukh Khan also contributed 26 runs to the cause.
Umran Malik said in the after-match presentation:
“I did try a couple of slower ones today, the yorker as well, I also tried to push the length further up. I hadn’t bowled a bouncer in that over (in which he dismissed Jitesh Sharma), was trying to bowl at his body, felt he could be cramped for room on the pull and the same thing happened. I can catch myself, I’m a good fielder (laughs, on the Smith dismissal). My job is to frighten the batters with pace. I used to play tennis-ball cricket until 2018, and started practicing with the leather ball 3 years back. Abdul Samad, who used to practice with me, got me into the team as a net bowler. There are a lot of fast bowlers in our region (Jammu), plenty of talented bowlers who can bowl at 130-140 kmph.”
SRH Win The Match By 7 Wickets With Aiden Markram Top-Scoring With 41*
In reply, the Sunrisers Hyderabad started off poorly as captain Kane Williamson got out for 3 runs. But then Abhishek Sharma and Rahul Tripathi got together and gave the innings a move on. Sharma made 31 in 25 balls with 3 fours and one six, while Tripathi looked good in his 22-ball 34 runs knock which had 4 crunching fours and 1 six.
After these two got out, PBKS had a chance to make inroads, but Aiden Markram and Nicholas Pooran put an end to that, as they added 75* runs for the 4th wicket. Pooran remained unbeaten on 35 in 30 balls, while Markram hit 41* in 27 balls and hit a six to finish the match.
SRH went to the 4th spot in the points table with this 7-wicket victory. Punjab Kings, on the other hand, move down to seventh with three wins and three losses
