Leg-spinner Piyush Chawla was bought by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise after an intense bidding battle for Rs.6.5 crore. CSK believes the experienced spinner can add balance to their side with Harbhajan Singh and Imran Tahir already in the set up. Piyush Chawla said that he was quite happy on being bought by CSK.

Chawla, who played for KKR earlier, said that MS Dhoni likes to play around with the spinner so it will be good for him and the team. He also added that he will learn a lot from Harbhajan Singh besides saying that Imran Tahir is a brilliant bowler with such an energy level in his 40s.

“Obviously first reaction was I was quite happy. As you are talking about a lot of spinners but we all know how Mahi bhai (MS Dhoni) plays around with the spinners. So that will be really good for me and for the team. It is also very important to have healthy competition in the team,” Piyush Chawla was quoted as saying by cricket.com.

“The good part is when I go there I will get to learn lot of things from Bhajju Pa (Harbhajan Singh). We all know Imran Tahir, what kind of a bowler he is and his energy level even at this age. So it will be fantastic to play with these guys,” he further added.

Harbhajan Singh has aged like a fine wine. Once the flag-bearer of Indian spin bowling, the veteran is still eyeing to make a return for the national team, after having played his last international match in 2016.

Away from the international circuit, Harbhajan Singh has plied his trade for two most successful teams in the IPL – Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI) – and continues to be a regular in the lucrative tournament.

He has played 160 matches in the IPL, picking up 150 wickets at an average of 26.44, with the best bowling figures of five for 18. He has picked up seven wickets in his last five IPL appearances for CSK.
