Former India pacer, Dodda Ganesh advises Prithvi Shaw to go back to playing domestic cricket. Ganesh’s comments came after the Indian opener was once again dismissed for a cheap score in the second innings of the ongoing Adelaide Test.

After taking a vital lead of 54 runs in the first innings, India would have hoped for the openers to consolidate on it. However, Prithvi Shaw was castled by Pat Cummins for a score of four by the end of Day 2. In the first innings, the opener inside-edged a Mitchell Starc delivery that was angling away from him on to the stumps for a duck.

The 21-year-old had a disastrous IPL campaign for the Delhi Capitals as well. He was dismissed 8 times for single-digit scores in 13 innings, before eventually being dropped ahead of the final against Mumbai Indians. He also recorded a couple of single-figure scores in the practice games against Australia A.

He has too many chinks for a Test opener: Dodda Ganesh

Dodda Ganesh is upset with Shaw’s consistent poor form. Not only the low scores, but Ganesh is livid with the flawed technique of the opener, and feels that Shaw is not good enough at the moment to open in Test cricket. The right-hander’s feet have been observed to static, and there has been a massive gap between the bat and the pad, and hence he has been bowled plenty of times recently.

The former Karnataka pacer also believes that Shaw was selected in the Indian Test team largely based on the aura around him. Shaw led the team to victory in the 2018 Under-19 World Cup and was likened to Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag.

“Prithvi Shaw needs to go back and play a couple of years at the domestic level. He was fast tracked simply because of the aura that was created around him. He has way too many chinks to be opening at the test level,” tweeted Dodda Ganesh.

He made his Test debut in 2018 against West Indies at home and scored a ton in his debut innings. He hasn’t played much of international cricket owing to injuries, then he was banned for doping reasons, and later because of the covid-19 outbreak. The 47-year-old took to Twitter to say that Shaw needs to go back to domestic cricket, score runs there to improve on his technique.
