Prithvi Shaw, Shubman Gill Have a Lot of Potential, They Should Enjoy Their Game, Says Sachin Tendulkar

Legendary Indian National Cricket team player Sachin Tendulkar has heaped praise on young Prithvi Shaw and Shubman Gill saying that they have a lot of potentials and should continue to enjoy their game.

Meanwhile, the duo grabbed eyeballs during their successful stint during the ICC U19 World Cup in Australia. And the Indian management is not shying away from giving youngsters a go at the international stage. After fast-tracking Prithvi Shaw into Test cricket last year against Windies, they handed the India cap to Shubman Gill in the last two ODIs against New Zealand.

Shaw is tailor-cut for international cricket

While Shaw made an immediate mark, Gill struggled to put runs behind his back but showed enough hints that he belong to international cricket. Sachin Tendulkar during an interview with TimesofIndia.com, shared high praise for both the cricketers and how sees potential in both of them.

“I’ve spoken about Prithvi earlier as well, having watched him bat in the nets as a little boy, all of 8-9 years of age, he had something special even back then. I instantly knew that he would play for India,” Sachin said.

Prithvi Shaw so far has played two Tests (three innings) for India scoring 237 runs at a staggering average of 118.50. His stint includes a century and a half-century making him youngest Indian to score a century on debut and second Indian after Sachin Tendulkar to achieve this feat. However, much to his dismay, Shaw had to miss the entire Australia tour due to an ankle injury.

They should enjoy cricket

On the other hand, Shubman Gill had a terrific time in the Ranji Trophy. He scored 728 runs from five games at an astonishing average of 104. He made it to the national team in place of then suspended KL Rahul on the back of a rich form in List A cricket.

Sachin Tendulkar believes these youngsters should continue to enjoy their game and they will serve Indian cricket for long.

“Shubman also played a crucial role in the last year’s U19 World Cup and has had a good domestic season, so both of them have a lot of potential. Having said that, these boys have just started playing for India and they should enjoy their game,” Tendulkar concluded.
