Watch: Prithvi Shaw's Classy Upper-Cut In A Practice Match Against New Zealand XI

Ahead of the Test series between India and New Zealand, there was a lot of talk regarding Indian opener Prithvi Shaw. He made his debut for the national team in the ODI series and looked in good touch, however, Virat Kohli’men were blanked 0-3 by the Kiwis.

The question was whether Shaw should continue to open for India in Tests or not. While Rohit Sharma is currently injured, India decided to back the pairing of Shaw and Mayank Agarwal in the warm-up match against New Zealand XI.

The two nations are busy fine-tuning their skills as they look to get into the groove ahead of the all-important Test series which will be part of the ICC Test Championship.

After failing to click on day one of the warm-up match, Shaw found his touch on day two, as he and Mayank remained unbeaten after stumps at day two.

The duo posted a total of 59 runs on the second day, as they looked to take the opposition bowlers to the cleaners.

Prithvi Shaw displays true class by hitting Scott Kuggeleijn for an upper-cut:

In his short innings of 35 runs off 25 balls, the youngster displayed his instincts as he hit New Zealand pacer Scott Kuggeleijn for a classy upper-cut.

As the Kiwis pacer aimed for short delivery, he messed up his line and the Indian youngster punished him by sending the ball for a boundary.

In the three-day practice game, India were bundled out for 263 on day one, after which they staged a comeback as the Indian bowling attack wreaked havoc.

Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami picked up five wickets in between them, Shami was in terrific touch as he ended his spell with figures of three for 17.

The New Zealand XI posted 235 runs in reply to India’s 263 runs, as they ended their first innings.

The first Test match of the two-match series between the Black Caps and the Indian team will begin on February 21, at Basin Reserve in Wellington.
