Rahul Dravid agreed to become India's batting consultant before chat with Ravi Shastri, reveals Sourav Ganguly

Earlier, when the selection of the head coach was the red-hot topic, there came the suggestion of Rahul Dravid and Zaheer Khan being the batting and bowling consultants for India in overseas. However, all of a sudden, the discussion never moved forward and is still left with no proper answer. Meanwhile, Sourav Ganguly speaks about it.

The plan to appoint Zaheer Khan and Rahul Dravid as the overseas consultants for the team was on the cards. But, Ravi Shastri denied the suggestion as he picked the coaches whom he is comfortable in dealing with the team efficiently.

As per the head coach decision, the respective board named Bharat Arun and Sanjay Bangar as his support staff. Despite covering all the needs, Ravi Shastri’s team failed to deliver the results.

Speaking of the same, Sourav Ganguly quoted that the legendary Rahul Dravid gave his green signal to tour with India. Furthermore, Ganguly revealed that Dravid had a chat with Ravi Shastri and turned down the offer.

Sourav Ganguly added that all those things tired him and the other two Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman which made them leave it for CoA. Irrespective of all, Sourav Ganguly wants an explanation from Ravi Shastri for the series loss.

“Rahul Dravid had been asked to become a batting consultant and he had even agreed. But then he spoke to Ravi and I don’t know what happened after that. The Committee of Administrators also had added to the confusion with the coach selection and we were tired and just got out of it,” Sourav Ganguly said to Hindustan Times.

”So it’s difficult for me to say why Rahul Dravid did not become the batting consultant. But if Ravi Shastri was given the responsibility, after consulting Virat Kohli. Then, he has to fulfil that responsibility and improve the team,” Ganguly added.

However, it would be interesting to see how BCCI would cope up with the series loss in England. The blunder in team selection and the game plans have been quite visible in the series so far. Nonetheless, the report prepared by the Team manager after the conclusion of the series will decide the fate of the management.
