Rahul Dravid Asks for Clarity Over his Involvement in Padukone Sports Centre

Conflict of Interest has again come back to haunt former India captain Rahul Dravid.

This time, over his association with the newly-built Padukone-Dravid Centre for Sports Excellence in Bengaluru. Meanwhile, Dravid has already written to BCCI citing clarification since he has no ownership of the center.

Previously, Dravid had left the Delhi Daredevils job after having a conflict of interest with the coaching role of India A and U19 team. Moreover, Dravid is serving as a coach of India A since 2015.

Meanwhile, the concerned center has academies in six disciplines – badminton, cricket, tennis, squash, football, and swimming.

Also, it has entre of sports sciences which is an initiative of Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra.

Conflict of Interest haunts Dravid:

Dravid, who is a part of the center has sought clarification from the apex body regarding this. Further, a BCCI official has admitted Dravid has voluntarily disclosed the issue.

Dravid has voluntarily disclosed and clarified that the center would bear his name, but he has no ownership interest in the company or in any of the academies run by it,” a top BCCI official told TOI.

Meanwhile, BCCI has presented the matter to the notice of Supreme Court appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA).

Dravid will have to wait a little longer to know if he is clear of conflict of interest since the board is yet to appoint an ombudsman. Dravid is currently a co-chairman of the advisory board of the center in question.

There should be no problem for Dravid in this, but it’s always better to get a legal clarification before coming to any conclusion. Once an ombudsman is appointed, the matter will be referred to him,” the official added.

Meanwhile, Dravid has written to the board before leaving for New Zealand with the India U19 side. Further, India won the title for the fourth time, as they beat Australia in the final.
