India’s premier off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is none short of a magician with the ball in his hand. Cricketers all across the globe have failed time and again to study the famous Carrom Ball that is the secret weapon of Ashwin. Not many spinners in world cricket bowl the carrom ball because it is a tough aspect to master on. However, Ashwin seems to have mastered the delivery and is arguably the best carrom bowl bowler in world cricket at the moment.

Although Ravichandran Ashwin might be away from the limited-overs team for a while now, he is a key figure in the Test team. Especially in the sub-continent region, Ashwin’s deliveries are unplayable.

He is one of the key reasons behind Team India’s recent domination in Test cricket all across the globe. The spin duo of Ashwin and Jadeja complete their overs quickly and clinch wickets at regular intervals that has helped India gain a significant lead over their rivals in recent times.

Ashwin has now opened up on how he learnt the skill and from whom he did it? “The first time I went to play a tennis ball game, I was batting. There was this guy who was bowling with a proper action, getting beautiful drift and getting the ball to go nicely out and in. Till today I can’t find where the guy is but I haven’t seen a better bowler who can bowl both in and out than him in my life. His name is SK. He was the one from whom I learnt that ball,” Ashwin told Cricbuzz.

Ashwin then went on to add that he used to practice the carrom ball daily so as to become an expert in it.

He added, “Basically he was the one who made me look like an absolute idiot on that particular day. I was a big thing around the tennis ball circuit as a batsman then, so I said I need to learn from this guy. So I used to go every morning, and he used to come and teach me for about 10-15 days.”

Ravichandran Ashwin has been one of India’s most prominent bowlers. Ashwin has inarguably been the finest exponent of the carrom ball. The delivery is bowled by rotating the ring finger around the seam off the ball so as to impart spin away from the right-hander without bending the arm, as the off-spinners naughtily used to do for the doosra before ICC became stricter against illegal bowling actions.
