Young Indian opener Mayank Agarwal has shed light on his understanding with fellow opener Prithvi Shaw. India is currently on a tour to New Zealand. Having clean swept the T20I series 5-0, India were clean swept 3-0 by the Kiwis in the ODIs. Both, Mayank and Shaw made their ODI debut in absence of regular openers Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma.

But, the young openers failed to impress with the bat and that was one of the main reasons behind India’s humiliating loss. The Tests will now prove to be the decider. In the two-match Test series, Mayank and Prithvi are likely to open again for India.

Before the first Test, a three-day practice match was played from February 14 which ended in a draw. Mayank Agarwal had a good outing in the second innings scoring 81 runs and now he has opened up on his relations with Prithvi Shaw.

Speaking to the media after the game Agarwal said, “Well we have played a lot of cricket together so we have an understanding. Both me and Prithvi can tell things to each other. This team does not have a culture of senior and junior, it is all about communication.”

Mayank emphasized on the importance of having a practice game before the series and also opened up on the game.

“It was a good match, it was nice that we got a practice three-day game ahead of the Test series. Scoring runs is important, in the first innings, the wicket was tough and I got out early. But it was good that I got another opportunity in the second innings,” Mayank said after the match.

India will take on New Zealand in a two-match Test series. The first game of the series will be played from February 21 at Wellington. India will miss a key player in Rohit Sharma. Rohit pulled off a calf injury in the final game of the T20I series and was away in the ODI series too.

However, the good news is that fast bowler Ishant Sharma has cleared the fitness test ahead of the series and will fly to New Zealand to play both the games.
